I like how he noted how Aquainas in his day said that,”as fallen man we are seeking after benefits that only God can give us while at the same time we are fleeing as fast and as hard as we can from Him.” People want God’s benefits but want nothing to do with Him. I am currently reading a book to review for a friend called Young, Restless, Reformed (yes,Bill,…i am reading it and should be done by next Sunday…I will get it back to ya this week…lol). In this book the author quotes from another book talking about teenagers’ religious attitudes, but I thought it fit for even alot of adults’ religious attitudes. The authors of the quoted book argue that a new religion has supplanted Christianity in America. The quote says: “This religion teaches that ‘God is something like a combination Divine Butler and Cosmic Therapist: he is always on call, takes care of any problems that arise, professionally helps his people to feel better about themselves, and does not become too personally involved in the process. They call this religion Moralistic Therapeutic Deism.” He notes later that this religion cannot save It is very sad but true that this seems to be the take that people want. As noted above, we want all the benefits but nothing to do with God because of our fallen state. That is why it must be God who saves because we cannot save ourselves. The seeker oriented churches will always lack the ability to truly see God’s glory because they focus so much on man rather than focusing all of their worship and study on God!
