  1. Bill says:

I figured if people are going to label me a “Calvinist” I should at least read a book about him…..

  2. Angel says:

Remember when you was not ashamed to say it. LOL! Should I read these too? I learn alot from you.

  3. Come on Bill, your just reading that Calvin book because Piper wrote it!!lol Should be a good one. Amazing how many people have authored a book about Calvin.

  4. Bill says:

@Angel–“Finally Alive” would probabaly be a read for you.
Still not ashamed, just want to know more….

@HP–Yeah I know. When I found this one by Piper it made my decision alot easier.lol

By the way. Driscoll nailed the Atonement in his introduction to “Death by Love”. So far so good.

  5. Dani says:

Yes! Books! “Finally Alive” is outstanding and I was so excited to see Piper write one on justification, since it seems to be under attack again. “Christless Christianity” is excellent too!

But I would like to check out the one on repentance. I remember watching one of the Paul Washer videos where he says, ‘Repentance comes before AND after salvation and a Piper video just before that giving the “before” Scripture reference! That was such good and awesome news!

    2 Timothy 2:25

  6. Bill says:

@Dani–Monergism had a great deal on ‘Finally Alive” but I could never log into my account, so I guess I’m going to have to get it from Desiring God. Have you read “Death by Love” yet?

  7. Bill, you can still order books from Monergism without logging in, I think. If not, set up another account. Don’t miss out on those savings. You’re laid off remember!

I thought the Piper book was on regeneration not justification. ?

  8. Dani says:

Glad you are getting it though. 🙂

Yes, I’ve read “Death by Love” and I liked it for alot of reasons. His latest, “Vintage Church” is in my opinion, his best yet. Excellent!

So many good books God is giving us! I’m very thankful for that.

  9. Bill says:

It is about the doctrine of regeneration, but we know that leads to justification. Either way he’s got a book on that too.lol

Still working my way through “Death by Love”. Still no complaints…..

  10. Bill says:

I’ve read that article and many responses to it. Here is a well thought out response from a fellow Tennessean
    http://www.inlightofthegospel.org/?p=4301.

I think his stereotypical assertions are what many people think of when they hear “calvinism”. If nothing else I’m sure this will spark some conversation amongst the reformed brother’s.

I read an article today by Pastor Driscoll on Calvin and his Theology and it seemed fair to me. I guess we need to find out the context these statements were made in.

  11. Dani says:

Oops! My mistake. Thanks for pointing it out HP. Yep, definitely on the doctrine of regeneration.
